Documentary Journalism
Some stories require more than observation—they require asking difficult questions, examining competing perspectives, and following evidence wherever it leads. Drawing on my background as a newspaper reporter, these films combine documentary storytelling with journalism, exploring complex environmental and social issues through on-the-ground reporting, interviews, and firsthand fieldwork.
As both host and producer, I guide viewers through stories that demand deeper scrutiny, helping audiences understand not only what is happening, but why it matters. These films move beyond surface-level coverage to investigate the environmental, cultural, and economic forces shaping our communities, using cinematic storytelling to make challenging subjects accessible and engaging. Both films are extensions of editorial reporting I produced for the quarterly magazine Santa Cruz Waves.
